Ōsaka-ya
大阪屋
Tucked into Minami-Kamata, Ōsaka-ya serves home-style small plates and sashimi straight from a counter display case, opening at 15:30 with options ranging from an ikura bowl to classic rice sets.
01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
Sliding open the door of Ōsaka-ya in an alley of Minami-Kamata, visitors are greeted by a glass showcase sitting directly on the counter, filled with ready-to-order dishes. Handwritten paper strips line the walls, and the ordering style is wonderfully traditional: diners eye the colorful plates and seasonal raw fish in the case and call out what catches their attention. The items on display serve as visual samples, and ordered dishes arrive freshly plated in generous portions.
Alongside comforting home-style cooked dishes like simmered vegetables, eggplant sautéed with miso, and bitter melon champuru, the kitchen is well regarded for its fresh sashimi. A bowl of seasoned salmon roe over rice, or ikura don, provides a satisfying meal centerpiece or closing dish. Guests can easily assemble their own personalized set meal by pairing any dish with a bowl of rice and miso soup, making it a reliable destination for an evening dinner.
Doors open before sundown at 15:30. Drink options include beer, shochu highballs, and green tea highballs, making early drinks just as welcome as an alcohol-free dinner. Seating includes both counter spots and tables; payment is strictly cash only, and reservations are accepted.
